Speed Flashcards
Distance
the length of the space between two points.
Speed
the rate at which someone or something moves or operates or is able to move or operate.
Time
the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.
Scalar
having only magnitude, not direction.
Vector
a quantity having direction as well as magnitude, especially as determining the position of one point in space relative to another.
Displacement
the action of moving something from its place or position.
Velocity
the speed of something in a given direction.
Distance- time graph
‘Distance’ is the total length travelled by an object. The standard unit is the ‘metre’. A distance-time graph shows how far an object has travelled in a given time. Distance is plotted on the Y-axis (left) and Time is plotted on the X-axis (bottom).
Acceleration
- the change in velocity per second is known as the acceleration of a body.
- acceleration is measured in metre per second per second or metre per second squared (m/s/s)
- can be written as ms-2 or m/s2
Force
Forces explain why an object moves the way itdoes. Why things stretch, twist, tear etc.
Non contact forces
Forces where objects do not have to be in contact for the force to occur
Contact forces
Two objects have to be in contact for these forces to occur.
Interaction pair
Pairs of forces that occur together.
Newton meter
A device used to measure forces. Also known as a spring balance.
Force meter
Used to measure forces digitally.
