Testes
Produce sperm
Scrotum
Where the testes are, located outside body to ensure the temperature is lower than the body temperature.
Epididymis
Coiled tube on the outside of each testis that stores sperm and allows them to mature fully.
Vas deferens
Sperm duct. Brings the sperm from testes to penis
Seminal vesicals, prostate gland, Cowper’s gland
Produce seminal fluid which mixes with sperm to form semen.
Penis
Is inserted into the vagina and ejaculates semen
Puberty
When the body starts becoming sexually mature. Normally happens between the ages of 10 and 16
Male puberty
Testosterone is released causing the voice to deepen and for hair to grow around the sex organs and the chest and underarms. The penis grows bigger.
Female puberty
When the sex hormones are released the breasts develop, hips widen, hair begins to grow on body.
The first egg is released from the ovaries and that leads to the first period occurring.
Menstrual cycle
Repeating series of changes that take place in the female body to prepare it for pregnancy. Ranges from 21 to 40 days, average is 28 days.
Ovulation
An egg is released from ovary. Average of every 28 days and approx. 14 days of cycle.
Fertile period
Days of the menstrual cycle when the woman is most likely to become pregnant. Intercourse 2/3 days before, during or after ovulation could lead to fertilisation cause sperm cells can survive for this long
Menstruation
The lining and a small amount of blood pass through the vagina (day 1-5) this is called menstruation or a period
Pregnancy
If egg is fertilised, the menstrual cycle is paused for the duration of the pregnancy is often that menstruation does not happen.
Menopause
Signals the end of the female ability to reproduce and also the end of her menstrual cycle. It happens at different ages for different people, typically in the late 40’s to early 50’s.
