Verbigeration
- repetition of phrases or sentences
- occurs spontaneously and without any goal
- not echolalia!
Palilalia
- reptition of last uttered word, without any apparent purpose
- seen in LD, tourettes
Logoclonia
-repitition of last syllable of a word, seen in Parkinsons
Language processing
Sound goes into ears===> transmitted to Wernick’es area and auditory association cortex===>arcuate fascilulus connects Wernicke’s area to Broca’s area===> signals from Broac’s area are relayed onto the motor area to coordinatre the delivery of language via the tongue, lips and vocal cords
Disruption to Wernicke’s area
- sensory aphasia
- cant understand but can speak
- voluminous speech but makes little speech
Disruption to arcuate faciculus
-conduction aphasia
Distruption to Broca’s area
- Broca’s aphasia
- can understand but cant speak
- laboured speech
- speech is telegraphic
Wernicke’s area
-understanding of words and sentences spoken by others
Alexia
Can speak and comprehend speech normally
Can write but cannot read
Agraphia
Cant write but everything else is fine
Seen in Gerstmann’s syndrome
