Q

How to read HNMR

A

the further down the more deshielded the proton meaning the more contact it has to EWGs

the # of peaks -1 is how many adjacent Hs the protons represented under a particular peak are near

the area ratios represent the ratio of hydrogens under each peak relative to each other

position on the spectrum can also indicate TYPE of proton

18
Q

What is NMR dependent on to detect, record, and display magnetic moments?

A

α-states (lower energy nuclei w magnetic moments that are aligned w the field) and β-states (higher energy)

nearby atoms w nuclei magnetic field can affect each other’s magnetic moments

19
Q

how does MRI work?

A

cross sectional scan

proton absorption density measured and represented through depth of color

dark is water
light is fat
