Specificity and sensitivity Flashcards
1
Q
What is sensitivity?
A
- measures the proportion of individuals who truly have a disease or condition (TRUE POSITIVE)
- Sensitivity = TP / tp + false negative
2
Q
What is true positive?
A
- Individuals who have the disease or condition and the test correctly identifies them as positive
3
Q
What is false negatives?
A
- Individuals who have the disease or condition but the test incorrectly classifies them as negative
4
Q
Explain high sensitivity/ low specificity?
A
- To increase sensitivity, shift curve to left
- Shift to the left= increases proportion of false positive , which means reduced specificity
4
Q
What is specificity?
A
- measures the proportion of individuals who truly do not have the disease or condition
- TN / TN + FP
5
Q
What are True Negatives?
A
-There are individuals who do not have the disease or condition and the test correctly identifies them as negative
6
Q
What are false positives?
A
- There are individuals who do not have the disease or condition, but the test incorrectly classifies them as positive
- These are cases that the test mistakenly identifies as having the disease
