Specific Questions Flashcards
three types of secondary tests
- mucuouos membrane irritation test
- hypersensitivity – skin sensitization test
- implantation test
- looking for inflammatory effect
test for hypersensitivity? type? use?
second stage
- looking for allergic reaction
- dental materials are haptens so have to add an adjuvent and create the immnoglobulins and then re test later and see if get a reaction
can we use culture for secondary tests?
no
implantation test aims to do what?
look to see if there is an inflammatory reaction
what does implantation test use
uses Polyethylene tube which is biocompaiable – this is important because we know this is not going to cause a reaction - but enclose material within it with open ends
what are you looking for after implantation test?
was there an accumulation of lymphocytes?
- chronic inflammatio you should not see neutrophils
3 usage tests
- gingiva / mucous usage tests
- dental/ pulp irritation test
- implantation test
characteristic of slight pulpal inflammatio
discrepencies in the ‘cell free/ nucleus free’ zone
it is irreversible
more capillaries and some cellular inflammation but the pre-dentin stays in tact
characteristic of moderate pulp inflammation
disrupted odontoblast layerand nuclei displaced into dentinal tubules
still reversible
do initial tests test for hazerdous or toxic components?
looking into hazerdous effects
- cant fully determine if it is non-toxic
- looking for LEACHABLE COMPONENTS
pulp capping tests uses?
calcium hydroxide
initial test vs usage tests with direct pulp capping?
material used?
uses calcium hydroxide INITIAL TESTS - extremely toxic due to high pH - dentin barreir tests - shows set CaOH cannot permeate the dentin barrier
pH of calcium hydroxide
greater than 12
modulus of elasticity of enamel? of zirconia and alumina?
85 MPa
zirconia - 200
alumnia - 300
