Maslows Hierarchy
Putting Smelly Socks Everywhere Stops-Aromics

have to satisfy these first BEFORE can satisfy others

Satisfaction of esteem leads to feelings of :
Self-confidence & Self-worth
Purpose & Belonging
Self Actualisation
desire for self-fulfilment
People at this stage:
- Communicate & Solve problems effectively
- Have self-discipline & independence
- Are creative
- Genuinely demonstrate compassion, affection & acceptance
Maslow → can’t reach this level without meeting all other needs first
Critique Maslow’s hierarchy and debate its relevance and validity after considering contemporary views on human needs
For
Can’t move up if all needs on one level not met
eg. you are tired and can’t go some place with your friends- social needs impacts and all needs aren’t being met
Is in order of importance for survival, and is still true
Critique Maslow’s hierarchy and debate its relevance and validity after considering contemporary views on human needs
Against
Don’t need to meet each of those needs to be motivated to reach higher needs
Eg. homeless - safety needs aren’t being met, yet can have social needs met through strong communities.
Esteem can be met as well (examples of homeless people achieving great things in the community)
