Define species
similar organisms who can interbreed to produce fertile offspring in a natural environment
Define hybrid
two different species breed and produce offspring that are usually sterile
How are classifications made through species interactions?
symbiosis, predation, competition and disease
Define symbiosis
two species interact with each other in close relationship over time
What are examples of symbiosis?
mutualism, commensalism, parasitism and amensalism
Define mutualism
both organisms benefit from the interaction (e.g clown fish and sea anemone)
Define commensalism
one organism benefits, other has no effect (e.g. whale and barnacle)
Define parasitism
one organism benefits, other is harmed (e.g. cattle and tick)
Define amensalism
one species harmed, other no effect (e.g. penicillium and bacteria)
