Positive test : (1) pain compression > distraction, or (2) pain with rotation greater than static with distraction
Positive dynamic test
pain increases throughout hip motion

5 special tests for Ligament Integrity
- Lachman’s
- pivot shift test
- anterior drawer test
- posterior drawer test
- varus / valgus stress tests
These 3 tests are indicated for ACL integrity
- Lachman’s
- anterior drawer test
- Pivot shift ( also rotary stability)
Lachman’s positive test
Translation affected side > non-affected side ( test bilaterally)
Varus/ Valgus stress tests for
MCL/ LCL integrity
Pivot shift positive test
audible/ palpable thud of click
Anterior drawer positive test
Translation affected side > non-affected side ( test bilaterally)
Varus/ Valgus Positive test
excessive tibiofemoral joint line opening with concordant pain (compared to non-affected LE)
laxity with pain , test bilaterally
ACL/ PCL injury implicated with
laxity at full extension
MCL/ LCL injury implicated with
laxity at 30 deg flexion
Joint Line Tenderness - confirmatory or eliminatory
ACCEPTABLE to rule out or in
May be better for more peripheral meniscus lesions
Thessalys Test - when not to use it
if your concerned for the patient’s ability to tolerate test/ maintain upright position
Dynamic Test confirmatory or eliminatory test
Eliminatory or Confirmatory
Appleys test - confirmatory or eliminatory

not well vetted ( poor research properties)
Mcmurrays test- confirmatory or eliminatory
