Hip IRA/ TIRA Flashcards
Where is the fovea?
femoral head
it is an attachment from ligamentum teres
What is the purpose of the femoral head?
Allows limb movement without impact from pelvis
What is the purpose of the femoral shaft?
Sustains compressive loads,
ridges at muscular attachment sites
what plane is the angle of inclination?
frontal plane ( neck to femoral shaft)
normal angle of inclination
135 degrees
adult: 125 to 140
coxa vara angle
less than 120
coxa valga angle
more than 140
what is the plane of anteversion
Transverse plane
Normal Anteversion angle
10 -15 degrees
Excessive anteversion angle? leads what?
40 degrees
1. increased risk for anterior dislocation
acetabular angle of anteversion M and W
M: 14
W: 19
Contents in Gap Between Inguinal Ligament & Pelvis

femoral nerve and artery
lymphatics
Labrum function
- joint stability
- Static restraint
- provides propioceptive information
- Free nerve endings; sensory pain information - deepens acetabulum
What part of the labrum is most likely to heal? less likely to heal
outer 1/3 - vascularized, healing
inner 2/3 avascular, no healing
which ligament provides Anterior stability to hip especially in extended position
iliofemoral ligament
