Special Tests Flashcards
What are the three different interactions of X-Rays?
- Transmitted - passes through unaltered
- Absorbed - stopped by the tissue
- Scattered - changes direction
What contributes to the attenuation of X-Ray photons?
Absorbed and scattered rays
Define radiograph
represents pattern of attenuation of X-ray photons after they have passed through matter
What is the difference between radiolucent and radiopaque?
Radiolucent - darker areas, less attenuation
Radiopaque - lighter areas, more attenuation
How would caries be presented on a radiograph?
reduced radiodensity therefore appears radiolucent compared to rest of tooth
Give examples of intra oral radiographs
Bitewing radiographs
Periapical radiographs
Occlusal radiographs
Give examples of extra-oral radiographs
Panoramic radiograph
Lateral cephalogram
Give an example of a cross-sectional radiograph
Cone beam computed tomograph
What should you use to identify teeth on a radiograph?
- Crown morphology
- Root morphology
- Curve of spee
- Surrounding non-dental anatomy
