Chlamydia, Borrelia, Rickettsia, Trypanosomes, Plasmodium

A
Glyocogen, mucopolysaccarides. Used to dx tropheryma whippeli of whipple’s disease.

A
Carbol-fuschin. Acid fast!

A
Nocardia, Mycobacterium, Cryptopsporium oocysts.

What is an alternative to acid-fast staining?
A
Auramine-rhodamine. Inexpensive, more sensitive, less specific.

A
Cryptococcus neoformans: mucicarmine can be used to stain thick polysaccharide capsule red.
