Special Segments in Circles-Use Circle Notes #2 to Follow Along Flashcards
NOTE: Use Circle Notes #2 on Classroom as a follow-along
What happens if two chords intersect in a circle?
The product of the pieces are congruent

Whats a secant?
A segment that intersects a circle at two points.

What happens if two secants intersect a circle from the same exterior point?
The product of the exterior piece and the whole secant for each are equal.

Whats a tangeant?
A segment that intersects a circle at only one poiny

What is the square of a tangent equivalent to?
The exterior piece time the whole secant

What happens if the diameter is perpendicular (90 degrees) to a chord?
It bisects the chord and the arc

On a circle, when can two minor arcs (arcs less than 180) be congruent?
Only if their corresponding chords are congruent to each other.

What does it mean if two chords are equidistant from the center of the circle?
They are congruent

What happens if two segments from the same exterior point are tangent to a circle?
Then the segments are congruent

How do you find the centerpoint of the circle?
Use the equation of a circle (x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2. The centerpoint is the opposite h and k.
