- dock against current
- local knowldege and precise piloting essential at the lumber wharf.
- Stay midchannel entering Gamble until 200yds + past S Lt, then head for wharf, keeping the long E face open to avoid shoal on W side of channel.
Hood Canal Bridge Operating Details
- 2 fixed openings with priv fog signals
- Center 600’ are pontoons, opens for larger vessels
- Tender monitors VHF 16, works 13
- Opens on signal with 1hour notice by radio, phone, visual or sound signals. To open 1 prolonged, 1 short. 5 short by tender means can’t open or closing.
Pleasant Harbor Pilotage
keep midchannel due to narrowness of entrance until clear of 6’ shoal.
N Naval Exercise Area -
Extending from aprox South Pt - South down the Hood Canal for 4.7nm. From E shore to .25 from w shore
Naval Operating Area
All waters of Hood Canal between 47° 46’ N and 47° 42’ N excluding 1/4nm area on W shore, and along E shore south from Bangor.
Used intermittently by Navy non explosive torpedo ranging, nav lanes along shore not closed to navigation.
Navigation permitted within the area except during naval exercises, vessels can’t enter or remain in area when in excercises in progress.
Naval vessels flying red “Bravo” flag means operations in progress.
Regs enforced by commander NAVBASE Seattle.
Naval Operating Area in Dabob Bay,
Vicinty of Quilcene
- Irregular shaped area in most of Dabob Bay
• No trawling or dragging
• No anchoring except between shore and 10Fa line.
• Flashing Amber Lts means naval ops in progress but no torpedos or testing, keep clear of vessels engaged testing.
• Flashing Red Lts when naval ops close the area to navigation. Craft on the bay should stop screws, engines, depth sounders.
