What is the definition of an Exceptional Learner?
Specially designed instruction that meets the needs of an exceptional learner. An exceptional learner is someone who requires education above and beyond the general education class inf they are to reach their full human potential.

What is a referral?
Who can ask for a referral?
What is required?
A written request for an evaluation of a student who is suspected of having a disability and who may need special education.
It can be made be a parent, school personnel, professional agency with parental permission, or the student (if 18+).
Must have written notification to the parent. Must have written consent of the parent.
Who is on the IEP team?
Parent (student if possible) General Educator Special Educator District rep. (pursestrings) Specialist (someone who can interpret evaluation) Others having knowledge of child
What is an IEP?
It is a LEGAL document developed by the IEP team that details the special education and related services the district will provide to meet the student’s individual needs.
