To invade England, because of his conflict involving England and the Catholic Church

To overthrow Queen Elizabeth I, because she supported Protestantism, and to re-establish Catholicism in England

30,000 men
Where did the Armada set sail from?
Lisbon, Portugal
Why did the Spanish Armada retreat?
They faced weather challenges, referred to as the “Protestant Wind”, because it was thought that God had sent a storm to sea to defend England
What was the Queen’s response?
She set out her own navy to fight back against the armada
How many casualities occured?
Out of 130 ships, only 67 returned to Spain, and it’s estimated that around 15,000 men died
