SP8- Energy- Forces Doing Work Flashcards
When is energy transferred
Whenever things happen
Electricity transfers energy to an electric light bulb; which then transfers the energy to the surroundings by light and heating
Energy can also be transferred when a force makes something move
What is work done
When energy is transferred by a force making something move - amount of energy depends on the size of the force and how far the force moves
How can work done be calculated
Work done = force x distance moved in the direction of the force
What is power
It’s the rate at which energy is transferred, when energy is being transferred by forces, then power is also the rate of doing work
Power is measured in watts
What is 1 watt equal to
1 joule of work done per second
How is power calculated
P = work done / time
