SP5 Flashcards
What is an incident ray?
It is the incoming ray
What is a normal line?
it is a line perpendicular to the boundary of an interface
What is the law of reflection?
angle of incidence = angle of reflection
What is total internal reflection?
It is when the light is completely reflected inside the glass and so the refracted light passes along the interface of the glass
What is the critical angle?
the angle of incidence in which total internal reflection starts to happen at
What is diffuse reflection?
reflection off a rough or bumpy surface causing many different reflections
What is specular reflection?
reflection off of a smooth surface
What is a lens?
a piece of translucent material shaped to refract light in particular ways
What does the power of a lens indicate?
the amount of which it bends light that passes through it
What is a real image?
an image that can be projected onto a screen
What is a virtual image?
an image that cannot be projected onto a screen
What speed do all electromagnetic waves travel at in a vacuum?
300,000,000m/s or 3x10⁸m/s
What do all objects emit energy by?
infrared radiation
