SP15a - SP15d test 2 Flashcards
What does elastic mean?
It means the object will return to its original shape when forces are removed
What does inelastic mean?
It means the object will not return to its original shape even when the forces are removed
What is the extension of the spirng?
it is the change in length when forces are applied
What is the spring constant for a spring?
the amount of force need ed to produce an extension of 1 meter
State the steps in the investigating springs experiment.
1.Set up the apparatus with the 0 on the ruler being at the bottom of the upstretched spring
2.Measure the length of the spring with no weights hanging on it and write it down’
3.Hang 1 Newton weight on the spring. Record the extension of the spring using the ruler
4.Repeat step 3 until you have found the extension of the spring with 10 different masses
5.Repeat steps 1-4 with a different spring
6.Use results to calculate spring constant for each spring
What is the approximate amount of atmospheric pressure?
100000 Pa
