SP10a-SP10c test 2 Flashcards
How does a battery work?
when a battery is attached to a wire the voltage ‘pushes’ the free electrons around the circuit. This electrons are negatively charged so they move towards the positive terminal of the battery.
What direction does the current flow in a circuit?respective to the direction of flow of electrons.
Positive to negative terminal
OPPOSITE the direction of flow of the electrons
Name the 2 types of circuits.
Series
Parallel
What is the difference between a series and a parallel circuit?
a series circuits only contains one route which the current can take around while in a parallel circuit it contains a junction that allows the current to take different routes.
What is the measurement of electric current called?
amperes — amps
What do we mean when we say the current is conserved?
it means the total amount of current stays the same on its journey around the circuit. The current leaving the positive terminal of the battery is the same as the current arriving at the negative terminal.
What is another name for Voltage?
Potential difference (p.d.)
What is the units of measurement for charge?
coulombs (C)
What is the equation to calculate the charge the flows in a set time?
Charge = current * time
Q = i * t
Formula for energy transferred?
energy transferred = charge moved * potential difference
