Preservation →
Refers to the protection of habitat in its existing form. It involves prevention of all human activities in the area being protected.
Conservation →
involves active resource management. It is planned use of natural resources in an effort to minimise environmental damage.
Utilisation →
Involves the replacement of an ecosystem with a built environment that is capable of providing a sustainable yield.
Exploitation →
Occurs when an ecosystem’s resources are used irrespective of ecological consequences.
Aboriginal Management Strategy →
Closed Season: Implies that Aboriginal people migrated according to seasons of the year. Past ecosystems of occupation would be deemed ‘closed’ allowing the flora and fauna to replenish for their return to the ecosystem. This kept the ecosystem sustainable and healthy.
