SP 3.1 Flashcards
Vulnerability →
Refers to the degree to which ecosystems can cope with change.
Resilience →
Refers to the ability of an ecosystem to adapt to a changing environment and to restore its functioning after it has been altered
Inertia →
Refers to the ability of an ecosystem to resist being disturbed or altered (greater the inertia, less vulnerability)
Constancy →
Refers to the ability for a living system to maintain a certain size
Nutrient Cycling →
refers to the movement and exchange of organic and inorganic matter, back into the production of living matter.
Carbon Cycling →
Carbon and oxygen is circulated in the biosphere through photosynthesis in plants and respiration in plants and animals
Energy Flows →
Energy flows through ecosystems via food chains whereby energy flows from one organism to another
