Origin of the Qur’an
- revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by Allah in Arabic
- oldest existing copy is from the ninth century
Content of the Qur’an
- 114 chapters and all chapters except one begin with Bishmalkahir rahmanir raheem ‘ in the name of Allah The most merciful and most kind.’
- longest chapter is Surah Baqarah with 286 versus and the shortest is Surah Al-Kawther with three verses
- divided into 30 roughly equal parts, called Juz’
Translations of the Qur’an
- over 40 different language translations
- muslims regard translations as new versions of the holy book
Memorising the Qur’an
- common for people to learn it by heart because books were not readily available.
- any person who has learnt it by heart is called Hazif
Respect of the Qur’an
- highly respected as the sacred words of God.
- should behave with reverence and refrain from speaking, eating or drinking, or making a distracting noises when the Qur’an is recited allowed
What is the Hadith
It is reports of what the Prophet Muhammad said or approved, teachings of Muhammad.
What is the Sunnah
The practices and examples of Muhammad’s life
Do Muslims believe in the Torah and Bible
Yes but they believe in the original form and they don’t think that the Torah and bible are in their original forms
What is the final revelation
The Qur’an is the final revelation which was predicted in the Torah and bible
How do Muslims explain contradictions between the Torah, bible and the Qur’an
If you believe in one, you have to believe in all of them and if there was any contradictions in the Bible and the Torah to the Qur’an it is where humans have changed it

the Zabur of Dawud, revealed to David
Gospel
the Injil of Isa, revealed to Jesus
