Sound, Ear, Light, Eye Flashcards
Inner ear
The semicircular canal and cochlea, which for organs of balance and hearing
Outer ear
Concentrates air vibrations on the eardrum to make the eardrum vibrate
Middle ear
The air-filled central cavity of the ear, behind the eardrum
Eardrum
A thin con-shape membrane that separates the external ear from the the middle
Hertz (HZ)
The standard unit of frequency in the international system of units (is) equal to one cycle per second
Wavelength
A distance between successive crests of a wave especially points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave
Amplitude
The maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation
Volume
How loud or low a sound is
Pitch
How high or low a sound is
Vibrate
Move continuously and rapidly to and fro
Auditory nerve
A bundle of nerve fibres that carries hearing information between the cochlea and the nerve
Ear bones
Three bones that transmit sounds from the air to the cochlea. Thy are the smallest bones in our body
Ear canal
A tube running from the outer ear to the middle ear
Vacuum
A space entirely devoid of matter
Longitudinal wave
A wave vibrating in the direction of propagation
Transverse wave
A wave that the medium vibrates at a right angle to the direction of its propagation
Oscilloscopes
An instrument used to analyze the wave form of electronic signals
Frequency
The speed of the vibration that determines the pitch of the sound
Cochlea
A portion of the inner ear that receives sound in the form of vibrations
Particle
An extremely small piece of matter
