What is a sound bridge?
Where a sound from the previous scene is carried onto the next one, linking the two
What is Diegetic Sound?
The sound originating within he world of the film itself. Typically dialogue, sounds originating from the shot or ambient and background noise.
What is parallel sound?
Sound what we expect to hear and is appropriate to what we are viewing.
What is foley sound?
The creation of live sound, made to be more authentic, created in tandem with what us being seen.
What is non-diegetic sound?
Sound that is added in at the editing stage. Includes sound effects, soundtrack and the sounds that take place outside of the narrative.
What is contrapuntal sound?
Sound that is not directly paralleling what is being played on screen, typically takes the form of music.
What is multi-track layering?
A number of complimentary sounds are layered to create an overall effect
What is ambient sound?
Sound that can be heard without any dialogue or movement. Recorded after filming, added if there is too much silence.
What are asynchronous sounds?
Sounds that are not matched to a visible source.
What are sound effects?
Enhanced sounds on the soundtrack used accentuate certain elements of the film.
