Editing Flashcards
What is eyeline match?
Where the characters gaze is matched to the direction where the object they are looking at is.
What is match on action?
Where the edit brings together two shots from different angles or shot sizes of the same action being completed.
What is a cutaway shot?
A shot that is not directly related to the action but has an indirect link.
What is discontinuity editing?
Where there is no smooth flow in the progression of the shots.
What is montage editing?
Where shots are not continuous but are juxtaposed to create meaning
What is a dissolve?
When one shot gradually gives way to another shot to indicate a transition.
What is continuity editing
It allows us to get lost in the diegesis and do not actively realise we are watching a film
What are the key points of continuity editing?
- a logical progression to shots
- a time related sense (shots/sequences relate to each other)
- Consistency between shots (actors/props/movement)
- appropriate change in the size of shots, the shot patterning doesn’t bring attention to the editing
