Explain Steps 8- 14
Hand Hygiene, apply tourniquet, select appropriate vein, release tourniquet, hand hygiene, gather equipment and swab arm, hand hygiene and assemble equipment.
Explain steps 15- 24
Apply gloves, Place kidney dish within reach, retighten tourniquet, pick up needle in dominant hand positioned over the vein and uncap the the needle, anchor vein and insert needle, introduce barrel to tube, loosen tourniquet as blood flows, observe and monitor client, remove tube when filled and invert 8-10 times, withdraw needle and apply cotton ball.
Explain steps 25- 31
DE notch needle, label tubes and confirm with client, package specimens in biohazard bag, check puncture site and apply dressing with tape, issues post blood test instructions, remove tourniquet, remove gloves and hand hygiene.
