The aim is to prevent pathogens from coming into contact with a person in the first place.
Types of Infectious Organisms
Bacteria, Virus, Fungus, Parasites, Anthropoids
Chain of Infection
Pathogen, Host/ Home, Exit, Transport, Entry, Host
Breaking the Chain Of Infection
Host/home (isolate), Exit (Hygiene) Transport (Contact through blood, ingestion, inhalation, transplacental- prenatal), Entry (Gloves, masks, Host (Age, predisposition immunity, malnutrition, chemo etc.)
Standard Precautions
Hand Hygiene, Gloves, Waste Management, Environmental Clean, Personal Hygiene, Uniform.
Additional Precautions
Mask, Gowns, Eye protection- goggles, one time use equipment, isolation/ negative pressured rooms, surgical footings.
