Pax/Orientation Indoc Flights:

A

References A through D provide guidance on the embarkation of passengers and minimum crew requirements. Simulated EPS, Practice Autos, intentional aircraft degradations, and ordnance release shall not be performed with passengers embarked or during indoc flights (to include midshipman fam flights). Per reference A, squadron CO’s may waive the NASTP requirements for oriented day overwater flights. This authority extends to flights with mission specialists (photographers for official tasking, spotters for NSFS missions, etc) as well as judicious use of airborne flights for reenlistments and orientation flights for ship or detachment members in these cases:

  1. The OIC shall generate a plan to minimize the risks ( taking into consideration the sea state, water temp, flight duration, Go/No go criteria, etc). CO permission is required for any non-passenger transfer of personnel
  2. Approval from the squadron CO shall be obtained in advance and documented using enclosure 4 which shall be signed in advance by the orientee acknowledging the risks

Ship-Shore= 200NM

The standard shipboard radius of action is 150NM or maximum reliable navigation/communication range, whichever is less.

Radius of action beyond 150NM in support of specific operational or tactical training missions may be approved by ISIC when dictated by mission planning, provided delibrate ORM has been conducted. Time spent beyond 150NM shall be limited to the minimum required to accomplish mission objectives.

38
Q

SOP

Detachment Concurrent Operations

A

Detachments operating on single spot ships with two manned embarked helos utilizing Recovery securing device shall not conduct concurrent flight ops unless an emergency landing site (ship or shore) is available within 50 NM for the duration of the evolution.

The 50 NM alternate landing site requirement applies to missions where the parent ship is the intended landing point for both aircraft, and does not apply to missions scheduled for the termination at other than the parent ship.

The 50 NM requirement does not apply to fly-ons for scheduled embarkations.

For fly-ons, thorough prior mission planning shall be conducted and no-go criteria determined which takes into consideration potential flight deck/hangaring delays/

The 50 NM alternate landing site limitations does not apply for concurrent manned/unmanned flight operations.

Each crewmember shall verbalize to the crew their DH settings and activation of warning tones.

44
Q

SOP

Local Dipping Restrictions

A

a. ) “Steady Hover” shall be established prior to “Down Dome”. PNAC should adjust potentiometers to control drift and limit groundspeed to no greater than 2KTS (drift limits do not apply while in sonar cable angle mode).
b. ) Cable Angle HVR shall be operable for all dipping operations. Submerged override shall not be used for routine operations.
c. ) Should not be conducted in Seas with wave heights exceeding 10’, winds exceeding 17-21 knots, or known/discovered currents greater than 4 kts during unit level training or fleet level exercises. Preflight and delibrate ORM and in-flight time critical ORM assessments of forecasted or observed sea state conditions and currents shall be accomplished prior to dipping sonar operations.
d. ) If cable angle exceeds 4.25* ring, all crew members shall verbally acknowledge the deviation and ensure appropriate corrections are being made to center the cable.
e. ) During dipping sonar training operations (with or without a submarine), POCL shall be no more than half the ceiling up to 1,000 feet ceiling. When ceilings are above 1,000 feet, POCL shall be no more than 500 feet below ceiling. During operational ASW involving a submarine under conditions that preclude a freestream recovery, POCL need not be restricted. However, ORM shall be conducted to minimize the risk to the TA in the event of a malfunction.
f. ) Dipping operations are prohibited with AFCS degredations affecting automatic approach, coupled hove, or cable angle hover functions. Cease dipping operations following any uncommanded pitch changes in a hover until maintenance action is performed.
g. ) With an 1177 fault (to include MBIT), cease dipping operations until maintenance action is performed.
h. ) If transducer towing groundspeed limits are exceeded, cease dipping operations and document on a MAF.
j. ) Except for operational requirements, use of active SONAR is approved only in authorized ASW training/Exercise areas.
k. ) If ALFS installed and dipping operations are scheduled, a MBIT shall be completed on the first flight of the day and should be completed prior to any dome deployment. Should the MBIT fail, flights may continue with a SEATED light and UTIL hyd pump off. MBITS should be perfomed on deck to max extent prac.

45
Q

SOP

In addition to night/IMC descent procedures, all crew members…

A

Should acknowledge when an altitude warning system aural tone is activated

46
Q

SOP

What are the crew rest requirements?

A

Ashore, in addition to section 8.3 of CNAF the following min crew rest policy is applicable:

Aircrew shall not be scheduled to brief a flight event until 10hrs after the completion of post-flight duties.

Aircrew SHOULD not report earlier than 12hrs (day) and 10hrs (night) prior to the scheduled completion of all flight and post-flight duties. Standard post-flight duties are approx 1 hr after scheduled land time.

Dipping Areas

A

Shallow water dipping area is located btwn NRB Tacan 100-120 Radials from 25-30NM

Deep water is located in 26G working area of W-158E excluding sub transit lane N-1. The 100 fathom curve is approx 75nm east of NRB

48
Q

SOP

In the event of a hung dome, it is assumed the crew has exhausted all means of recovering the dome and all emergency procedures have been completed. The following considerations/procedures apply:

A

1) The air boss or HCO shall ensure all personnel are clear of them landing spot with the exception of the min number of Mx personnel rq’d (approx 4)
2) Consideration should be given to securing a mattress or padding to the deck either on or adjacent to the landing deck (dependent on POCL) so the dome can be lowered to minimize damage
3) The a/c will hover at an appropriate alt to facilitate recovery. Max safe alt will depend on POCL and environmental conditions. The LSE should be positioned in the best location to provide signals for placing the dome on the deck
4) Conditions will dictate whether the cable will be sheared or lowered to the deck. If its lowered, and sufficient POCL exists to allow Mx personnel to disconnect the dome, they shall ensure it is grounded to avoid electrostatic shock. From there, Mx shall walk the cable via 2 person integrity away from the landing spot. If there is insufficient POCL, the crew may opt to lower the dome onto the padding and then slide over to land. If at any time a stable hover cannot be maintained during or after disconnect and or during the descent, the crew shall execute the appropriate emergency procedure to facilitate safe recovery.
5) After landing and placement of chocks and chains, the cable should be placed in the aircraft cabin prior to aircraft shutdown.
