1
Q

Explain how density varies in solids, liquids, and gases.

A

bcs both solids and liquids have fixed volumes, their densities are constant. but not for gases, their volume can be altered by changing the size of the container, so their density changes.

Q

define temp

A
  • is the average kinetic energy of molecules in a sample
  • rem: temp is a reflection but not a direct measure of heat content. Heat content is not measured in degrees but in joules, kJ, and cals.

Q

Specific heat capacity defin and it’s effects on temp

A
  • is the amount of heat needed to increase the temp of 1 gram of a substance by 1 degrees celcius.
As a result substances with diff heat capacity will need different amount of energy to increase their temp.

Q

relationship btn mass and atoms

A
  • it varies with the number of molecules and atoms in the substances.
more atoms and molecules = more mass
