Somatosensory Pathways Flashcards
Lesion on 1st order neuron
same side deficit
Lesion on 3rd order neuron
contralateral deficit
Only sensory pathway that does not go through thalamus
Olfactory
Posterior column-medial lemniscus (DCML) carry
proprioception, vibration, fine touch, and stereognosis
Where does the DCML pathway cross?
at medulla
T7 and below DCML pass through what posterior column?
Fasiculus gracilis
T6 and above DCML pass through what column?
Fasiculus cuneatus
ALS is how many pathways?
2- anterior spinothalamic & lateral spinothalamic
Where do the ASL pathways cross?
in the spinal cord
Lissauer’s tract is applicable to what pathways?
ASL
What are Lissauer’s tract?
asl pathway that travels to its corresponding spinal level and then up 2 levels as collateral branches, in case of injury can still have sensory in that spot
Somatosensory information goes through what part of thalamus?
VPL and VPM- ventral posterior lateral/medial
How many spinocerebellar tracts are there?
2- anterior and posterior
Which spinocerebellar tract crosses?
Anterior- crosses twice to stay on same side of cerebellum via superior peduncle
Posterior spinocerebellar tract passes through …
inferior peduncle- never crossing and going straight up and on same side to cerebellum
