Receptors Flashcards
General sensations
pain, temp, touch, vibration
Special sensations,
see, smell, hear, balance, taste
Process of sensation
stimulation, conversion, generate impulses, and integration
Simple vs complex receptors.
simple- free nerve endings
complex- encapsulate nerve endings
both- unipolar
Special sense receptors
respond to certain stimuli & BIPOLAR
Mehanoreceptors
pressure, stretch, touch, vibration, proprioception
3 types- baroreceptors, proprioceptors, and tactile
Chemoreceptors
detect molecules
ex. carotid body and aortic bodies
Nociceptors
detect pain, free nerve endings
Fast pain vs Slow pain
Fast- type A, not felt in deep tissue
Slow- type C
Thermoreceptors
detect temp., free nerve endings
Tactile receptors
pressure and vibration
free nerve endings, root hair plexus, Merkel’s dics, Meissner’s corpuscles, Pacinian corpuscles, Ruffini
Pacinian corpuscle
(encapsulated)- high frequency vibration
Meissner’s corpuscles
low frequency vibration
ex. eyelids, lips, fingertip, nip
