Somatic Hallucinations Flashcards
Bar et al
Schizophrenia with SH (itch) = activity in SS cortex when shouldn’t be
Kim
Post-stroke pain or paresthesia after cortical or subcortical lesions. Activity not just in SS cortex, also in subcortical areas (e.g. basal ganglia)
Lo and Williams
Paresthesia in fingertips of L hand = lesion in RH SS area
Bakheit and Roundhill
Stroke affecting R thalamus = 3rd phantom leg (contralateral). Disconnection of parietal lobe via thalamic lesion?
Hari et al
Infarction of R frontal lobe = 3rd phantom hand but no control over it. L SS cortex activity suppressed when perceive 3rd arm. Pre motor cortex cannot link back to primary motor cortex to carry out action = disconnection of info transfer via corpus callosum?
Moro et al
R fronto-temporo-parietal lesion. 3rd arm on L side and disownership of plegic arm
Loetscher et al
R cortical and sub-cortical lesion WITHOUT hemiplegia. Tumour removed from R temporo-parietal region = fight with L leg
Mary-Lopez et al
R thalamic infarct = L alien hand
Biran et al
L fronto-mesial lesion extending into rostrum and splenium of corpus callosum = R alien hand
Biran et al theory
Alien hand result of disinhibited motor function. Most have 2 lesions in common = corpus callosum and meso-frontal lobe. Where in corpus callosum determines specific form of alien hand syndrome.
