15
Q

Why won’t oil and water mix?

A

The polar water molecules have partial charges while the nonpolar oil has no charges. The partial charges on water are attracted to other water molecules with partial charges rather than the noncharged oil. The IMF of water bonding with water are stronger than the IMF of water bonding with oil.

17
Q

What mass of NH4Cl can dissolve in 100 mL of water at 90C?

(just include the value not the unit)

A

70

18
Q

Which compound is the most soluble at 10C?

A

KI

19
Q

80 g of NaNO3 is added to 100 mL of water. How many more grams should be added to have a saturated solution at 50C?

A

35 (32-37)

20
Q

A supersaturated solution of potassium nitrate is made by saturating a 100mL solution at 60º C then cooling it to 10ºC. When the solution is disturbed, what mass of potassium nitrate will precipitate out of solution? (just include the value not the unit)

A

80 (76-80)

21
Q

When 130 grams of KNO3 is dissolved in 100 mL of water (and ALL of it is dissolved) at 60C, is the solution unsaturated, saturated, or supersaturated?

A

super saturated

22
Q

How many grams of KCl can dissolve at 10 oC? (just include the value not the units)

A

30

23
Q

Water freezes at O degrees Celsius and boils at 100 degrees Celsius. I have added salt to the water. Describe the new boiling point.

A

Higher than 100C

24
Q
