Solution & Solubility G.1 Flashcards
-homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.
-categorized as a homogeneous mixture because its components are indistinguishable from one another
Solution
the one being dissolved
Solute
the dissolving medium
Solvent
2 COMPONENTS OF SOLUTION
SOLUTE
SOLVENT
solution which can not dissolve further amount of solute at a particular temperature
SATURATED SOLUTION
solution which can dissolve further amount of solute at a particular temperature
UNSATURATED SOLUTION
has dissolved more amount of solute than ca be dissolved by solvent
SUPERSATURATED SOLUTION
pertains to the maximum amount of solute dissolved in a given amount of solvent at a specific temperature and pressure
Solubility
-states that gas particles are in constant motion and exhibit perfectly elastic collisions
-can be used to explain both Charle’s and Boyle’s laws
-the average kinetic energy of gas particles is directly proportional to absolute temperature
Kinetic molecular theory
