According to M. Toman in Unconventional Fossil-Based Fuels in 2008, the United States has an estimated coal reserve of about 275 billion tons. Close to 1 billion is used every year, meaning that it will last for over 27 more decades, giving us plenty of time to come up with better energy solutions.

. The Liquid Fuel process of turning coal into oil begins with gasifying coal, which consists of reacting coal with steam and oxygen at approximately 2500 degrees F and 400 to 500 psia in order to produce a mixture of syngas and CO2. As it leaves the gasifier, the synergy is dirty because it contains CO2 and various other gas molecules derived from the impurities in coal. These impurities are removed. To properly prepare the syngas, sulfur compounds are reduced to near zero concentrations, and the captured sulfur is converted to either pure sulfur or sulfuric acid. After cleaning, the syngas is directed to the FT reacts, which employ catalysts of either iron or cobalt to form hydrocarbons from the syngas. After leaving the FT reactor, the hydrocarbons are upgraded into products that can be used for automobiles.

E-Gas Technology removes all of the CO2, 95% of mercury and 99% of sulfur from coal. All three are collected and turned are recycled into byproducts that are sold for useful purposes.
