For 50:50 Policy
The 50:50 policy is to make sure that women gain the same opportunities as men in areas of work for example leadership and decision-making roles. This has the potential to reduce gender inequality as it destroys the stereotypical barrier associated with men and women. this gives women the chances they would typically not have in a male dominated field, which will then give them equal representation.

° “Since 50:50 started in 2013, the number of women in the Commons has increased by 73, up from 147 to 220”.
° These statistics show that 73 women got a job in a high, male dominated position due to the 50:50 policy and it is a good thing to have female representatives in politics.
° it has the chance to empower and encourage other women and inspire them to try and achieve the high positions that they want to get, aim for things they wouldn’t have without a little push.

° “This comes on the back of successfully narrowing it’s gender balance across leadership roles and continued efforts to ensure pay decisions are fair and consistent”
° This shows that equality in the workplace is working, and employers will do their best to make sure this remains. Society has finally noticed that women are underrepresented and are trying to change that.
Against 50:50 Policy
° On the other hand, evidence shows that the 50:50 will take too long to have a big influence on gender inequality on women, or it just won’t go far at all.
° Some highly ranked jobs don’t offer maternity leave because the majority of its employees are men, so it’s not required. if a woman were to have such jobs, she would struggle to balance both her at home life with the baby and her work life.

° “At the rate we’re going, it will take another 40 years before we have gender balance in our elected body, which is shocking.”
° This shows that 40 years for this to take place is a long time and it shouldn’t take that long. this proves that the changes being made are really slow and is having little impact.

° “While women may represent half the workforce, they are often underrepresented in leadership roles”
° This shows that women aren’t always a companies top priority and are put on the back burner. however, even if they do have a leadership role, they’re underrepresented in that position, and no one will really care.
