How long does a Radwaste operator have to acknowledge an alarm on the SR/RF system before the control room alarm comes in?
5 minutes
What is the difference between the high activity spent resin tank and the low activity spent resin tank?
High activity tank has more shielding and receives resin from CH and PC ion exchangers.
Low activity gets spent resin from the LR system
Describe how resin removal is accomplished from the spent resin tanks.
There is a line inside a line which provides sluice water in the outer pipe area through a Johnson strainer to the inner pipe area. This transports resin with an eductor effect as the water/resin exits the pipe.
What type of pump is the resin transfer/dewatering pump and what supplies the seal water to this pump?
Progressive cavity pump.
Reactor makeup water supplies seal water
What will cause the resin transfer / dewatering pump to trip?
Low suction pressure or electrical protection
What form does the liquid Radwaste take when the CD-600 vendor unit is done with it?
It is a white powder or a thick paste called a salt block that sets up in about an hour.
What must be done if the CCTV malfunctions during CD-600 transfer, filling, or flushing?
The transfer or flush must be secured until the problem is resolved.
How many resin drying systems are there?
One portable unit to be shared by all 3 units
How is moisture removed from the air that is pumped through the resin bed during the drying process?
The entrainment separator tank contains refrigeration coils to condense the moisture.
What must be monitored closely during resin drying operations?
Temperature of the waste and waste container has to be monitored due to the possibility of an exoteric reaction while drying the resin.
If it happens, the container has to be flooded with water, so the waste transfer hose has to stay connected until the fill head is removed.
What is used to shield and transport radioactive filters?
Radioactive filter transfer cask is used to shield and a 5 ton monorail hoist is used to transfer it.
