Solar Winds Flashcards
1
Q
What are solar winds?
A
The ejected particles from the Sun travel through space as solar winds
2
Q
How does the Earth protect itself from most solar winds?
A
It’s magnetic field deflects most of the particles.
3
Q
What are auroras?
A
Particles from solar winds hitting Earth’s atmosphere
4
Q
What are northern and southern lights called?
A
Aurora Borealis
Aurora Australias
5
Q
What are different ways solar activity cause communication disruptions?
A
- solar activity can affect artificial satellites (disrupts cellphone and satellite TV communications)
- scientists constantly monitor satellites and boost them back into their orbits to prevent them from falling and burning up in the atmosphere
- radiation is very dangerous during spacewalks or even in spacecrafts
- no atmosphere to protect astronomers from radiation
