soil Flashcards
Climate
climate plays a crucial role in the formation of soil. the moisture in the air coupled with high temperature the the breakdown of rocks and boulders
weathering
the definition is the proscess by which rocks are broken down to finer soil
physical weathering and chemical weathering
physical weathering
Large rocks are broken down into smaller pieces by physical weathering
factors are rain,temperature,windand glaciers
the greater the weathering the finer the particles will become.
chemical weathering
Chemical weathering is a process where the chemical
composition of a large rock or boulder is changed. This
could happen if the rock or boulder is subjected to sudden
increase in temperature.
example of chemical weathering
r. For example, granite is
made up of quartz, feldspar and mica. If granite comes in
contact with molten lava it will melt and on cooling quart,
feldspar and mica will mix with the contents present in the
molten lava to form a new type of rock.
parent material
Parent material is the basic source from which soil is formed. Parent material can be transported from one
region to another.
