Sodium Bicarb: Indications

A

Known pre-existing bicarbonate-responsive acidosis.
Upon return of spontaneous circulation after long arrest interval.
TCA overdose
Hyperkalemia
Phenonbarbital Overdose
Alkalinization for treatment of specific intoxications.

Sodium Bicarb: Dosage and administration

A

Adult/Pedi: 1mEq/kg IV, may repeat with 0.5mEq /kg every 10min
Adult/pedi infusion: 1-4 amps in 1 liter of NS. (rate per physician)
