Metoprolol: Mechanism of action
A
Selective inhibitor of beta 1 adrenergic receptors; Completely block beta 1 receptors with little to no effect on beta 2 receptors at doses less than 100mg.

Metoprolol: Indications
A
Treatment of Hypertension and angina pectoris; prevention of MI, A-flutter, A-Fib, symptomatic treatment of hypertrophic sub aortic stenosis; reduce increased symptomatic stimuli in acute MI.

Metoprolol: Dosage and administration
A
Rapid A-fib & Hypertension:
dosages of 1.25mg-5mg IV every 6-12hrs for pts unable to take oral meds.
Acute MI: 5mg IV every 5-10min up to 3 doses
