- some asylum seekers risk being sent back to their own countries and will be killed due to PNG not guaranteeing they will abide by the UN’s Refugee Convention rules
- PNG promised to process the asylum seekers and re-settle them but nothing has been done it is also a breach of the UN refugee convention which Australia signed in 1951( that states that we must accept all refugees regardless of how they got here)
- a large number of cases have been reported of abuse both physical and mental including rape
- poor living conditions such as medical neglect, familial separation and overcrowded housing. which is a breach of human rights
- children have limited access to education, sport and recreational activities limiting their future opportunities in terms of jobs but also fitness and mental health.
- it is discrimination to these people just because they arrived via boat.
- they live in terrible conditions with no idea how long they will be stuck there or if they will be sent home.

- to prevent overcrowding in detention facilities in Australia
- to secure Australia’s borders and create a fair and orderly migration
