Sociology and Social Policy Flashcards
What is a social problem
According to Worsley
- a part of social behaviour that causes social friction and private misery and class for elective action to solve it
What is social policy
- plans, actions and laws which are put into place by governments to improve society
what is the influence of social policy on sociology
new interventions in the sociological world can lead to new sociological research
the type of socialogical research that gets done is often shaped by government priorities
Economic and social research councils e likely to provide funding for research concerned with government policies
sociologists are therefore likely to take into account the work of focused research and government concern
factors that limit the influence of social policy on sociology
if governments are sympathetic to the policies advocated by sociologists, they are not always able to implement them
facts of globalisation can mean the power of a particular state can be limited
governments are limited by financial constraints, eliminating poverty by increasing benefits, the problem of raising sufficient funding will be prevented
