What is Feminism?
- feminism is a conflict theory that argues society is divided on the basis of gender
patriarchal oppression of women is n all areas of society
What are the waves of feminism?
first wave - political equality
second wave - social and economic equality
third wave - intersectionality, focusing on women’s rights
Third wave - empowerment of women
What is Liberal Feminism?
takes inequality by using existing institutions - such as legal reform
aiming to improve women’s equality in the home, work etc
what is Marxist-Feminism?
duel conflict approach that focuses on the exploitation done by capitalism and by males
Bentson - argues women are a reserve army of labour for times of economic depression
Ansley - argues that women absorb mens frustrations
Delphy and Leonard - the unpaid labour women do at home greatly benefits capitalism
What is Radical Feminism?
view that patriarchy I so impeded in society, that society must be restructured for equality
female separatism and supremacists are extreme variations
millet - argued that women are controlled physically, psychologically and ideologically by men
evaluation of feminism
whilst progress for inequality has been made, inequality on a global scale remans
fragmented nature within the moment
