It represents the individual’s identity based on the response in his own experience. When the person initiates or performs social action, the self functions as the subject.
ex. I will cook dinner

It represents learned behaviors, attitudes, and expectations of others. When the person takes the role of the other, the self functions as the object.
ex. They chose me as the President
