What is a society ?
Organised group of people associated for specific purpose or with shared common interest
What is socialisation and what are the two types of socialisation ?
Socialisation is a lifelong process where members of society learn its norms values,ideas and practices in order to take their place in society
Primary socialisation happens at the early years of childhood and from immediate family whereas secondary socialisation happens during later years and from other agencies e.g peer groups, friends and schools.
What is internalisation ?
The learnings of values or attitudes that are incorporated within yourself.
What is social process?
The ways which individuals and groups interact, adjust and readjust to establish relationships and patterns to behaviour.
What is social control ?
Where people’s thoughts, feelings, appearance and behaviour are regulated in social systems.
What is social change ?
Occurs when institution re adjust to meet ‘ new needs ‘ of group in society
What are the groups affected by inequality ?
Gender
Age
Social -economic group
Ethnicity
Race
Disability
What are some of the causes of inequality ?
- have less money
- geographical issues
- lack of role models
- stereotyping / discrimination
- lack of facilities
What are the consequences of inequality ?
Lower participation rates, fewer women in positions of power and decision making
What is social stratification ?
type of social inequality where society is divided into different levels on the basis of social characteristics e.g wealth
Explain why social stratification can affect participation rates in skiing. ( 2 marks )
Those with increased wealth will be able to buy equipment to ski compared to less wealthy people. This therefore causes a lower participation rate for lower/ working class people due to increased wealth allowing individuals to go to ski resorts.

What is social action theory ?
- considers how sport impacts society
- interactionalist theory = the study of how individuals behave in society
- Type of socialisation that helped society change as sport has developed with society and changed everyones norms values and morals
What are the main concepts of SAT theory
- by interacting with others, people create organisations e.g schools and clubs
-the organisations help shape society e.g decreases racism and obeying the rules of the organisations. - social institutions are the products of the interaction of people within the institution
How is social action theory linked to sport ?
- people create sporting organisation
- people developed sports and leagues by working together ( social interactions )
