What does left realism state?
It states that crime is due to inequalities which is created by a capitalist society
What are the causes of crime?

Marginalisation- cut off from society as they lack resources
Relative deprivation- feeling deprived in relation to others. (Media-success)
What are some measures to reduce crime?

Community approaches- improving community. Unemployment, living standards
Intervention- helping specific groups at risk and limiting it. (Perry skl project)
Improved policing- police+community
What does right realism state?
States that crime is due to the individuals themselves and that crime is a problem that effects poor people
What are some causes of crime?

Rational choice- individuals can plan and predict their actions and its consequences
Broken windows theory- crime is higher in areas of high social disorder. Eg: graffiti
What are some measures to reduce crime?

Environmental Crime prevention- zero tolerance policing. Eg: immediate pens
Criminalising antisocial behaviour
Situational crime prevention- reducing opportunities to commit crime (cameras) and implementing guards, locks, fences
What does marxism state?
States that crime is something that’s inevitable in society and its used by the ruling class as a means of control
What do marxist state about crime and classes?
States that all classes commit crime but policing is different depending on the class
What do marxist say about capitalism?
They say it creates crime and encourages selfishness, greed, exploitation, etc
