When was the peasants unrest and what were the consequences?
1484-85, after which Ferdinand produced the ‘sentence of Guadalupe’ (1486) which identified and removed the six evil customs. As a consequence of the unrest peasants had to pay a large sum and the economic inequalities were never solved.

1499 – the result of increased taxation on moors

What was the ‘carrot & stick’ method? What happened in 1480 as a part of this?
The carrot was incentives and rewards for loyal and obedient nobles whereas the stick punished those who did not abide by F&I’s rules. In 1480, troublesome noble had their land seized and burned to highlight the importance of loyalty.

Merchants, professionals and clerics
How did the crown control towns and urban communities?
Through the use of corregidores and the santa hermandad. The former, however, were not introduced in the eastern kingdoms out of respect for their Fueros.
What did Medina Sidonia do in 1504? What did this show?
Offered the Habsburgs 2000 cavalrymen and 50 000 ducats to run a campaign against Ferdinand. Demonstrated that F&I never truly were able to control the nobles and Ferdinand in particular lacked loyalty from castilians as he was aragonese.
When did Ferdinand gain control of the military orders?
1500 - this provided a new field of patronage for nobility and therefore a new way in which the crown could generate loyalty.

50% of seized land and wealth was redistributed to the nobles.
