Q

Criticisms in ‘Anarchy in Order’?

A
  • Opponents argue that concept of ‘anarchy in order’ is a flaw in the ideology as the selfish, antisocial and competitive aspects of human nature make the idea unrealistic and untenable
  • However anarchists conform to the notion of tabula rasa where people are born without basic nature and in which human nature is environmentally determined. Bakunin endorsed such concept, believing that the only impulse we have when we are born is towards a variant of natural justice

Q

Collectivist view of society?

A
  • Argue that altruism is undermined by the competitive, exploitative and devise nature of the capitalist state. Common ownership and mutual institutions will help grow altruism, and cooperative behaviour will sustain the natural order.
  • View private property as a threat to social order as it promotes inequality and inequality causes social conflict. Underpins belief in common ownership of property and the equal distribution of the output of that commonly owned property

Q

Individualist view of society?

A
  • Egoistic anarchists argue that the individual should act as they see fit and the removal of the state will nurture rationalism, autonomy and self interest which are the best guarantors of social order
  • Anarcho-capitalists argue that the free market will allow rational, autonomous and self interest individuals to make judgements in their own best interests, creating natural order
